Overview of Operate and Maintain Chainsaws:
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a hand-held chainsaw and maintain it in working condition.
This unit applies to cross-cutting fallen timber using safe cutting techniques.
This unit applies to individuals who undertake defined activities with specialised tools and methods, work in a structured context, apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy and limited judgement, and provide solutions to a limited range of predictable problems.
Work is implemented with low-risk work procedures and to comply with the Safe Work Method Statement documentation.
No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit.
The unit applies to a chainsaw operator worker. If you’re using a chainsaw at work, you need to be able to demonstrate that you’ve been properly trained and formally assessed.
Anyone operating a chainsaw should apply for this course.
The course consists of the following topics:
- Assist in preparation of work site.
- Recognise and apply workplace safety procedures.
- Check and prepare chainsaw.
- Operate chainsaw.
- Complete and check chainsaw operation.
There are no entry requirements for the chainsaw course.
AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws
(On request, we can deliver AHCPCM203 Fell small trees the following day or as negotiated. The price is $300, minimum of two students needed)
On successful completion of this course, participants will be issued a ‘Statement of Attainment’ certifying competence of the unit.
Operate and maintain chainsaws classroom (face to face) and practical training is conducted at the LT Training Nambour facility at Youth Ave, PCYC Nambour, QLD, 4560. We also deliver this unit at the PCYC, 27 Narracott St, Carina QLD 4152 in South Brisbane.
Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable facilities. We need a minimum of four people for other job sites.
LT Training does not offer RPL at this point in time due to the high-risk work activity and changing legislation.

All training aids and safety equipment are provided for use as required. Maximum student numbers exist depending on the facility.
